GrassFed ranching and farming has a positive impact on the animals raised, the stewards of those animals, the land they are raised on and community in which they are raised. For this reason Book Family Farm had chosen to raise and provide grass fed beef to help bring great tasting and healthy beef to our local community.

Raising and finishing cattle on grass, rather than a feedlot, returns the animal to its traditional production method. The need for antibiotics, supplemental growth hormones, and/or feed with animal byproducts in it simply doesn’t exist when cattle live their lives on the rich grasses that grow here on Book Family Farm. Having a digestive system that converts grasses, legumes and herbaceous plants into protein, healthy pastures are the most natural diet for beef cattle.

Our grass feed beef live their lives stress free on these pastures, are moved periodically to stay on fresh “salad bars” of good grasses, and never step foot in a feed lot.

The health benefits to eating this kind of beef are many. Our grass fed beef has 2 to 6 times more the type of “good” fat called omega-3 fatty acids that help the body fight high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer. These omega-3 acids are formed from the animals’ consumption of the green leaves of plants. Our grass fed beef is also higher in vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene and CLA’s than grain finished, feedlot finished cattle.

We finish our grass fed beef at or around 2 years old on the rich, lush and slow growing spring grasses and legumes that northern California is renowned for. Our cattle put on weight and build flavorful muscle and fat that help define the flavor of the meat and marbling of the fat. Our local butchers dry age the beef for 2-3 weeks before it is cut and wrapped, and delicious, healthy beef is the result! Enjoy Book Family Farm grass fed beef! briankatiedrake@gmail.com
